There are so many events that are unfolding in today’s society, that have the ability to cause us to be fearful. Lone gunman walking into movie theaters opening fires, angry ex-employee’s taking out revenge on bosses, shake ups in our government that have caused the ugliness of the nation to rise up. We face so many situations now, at the hands of others, that it almost makes you want to live in a bubble. Story after story every day in the news that seemingly rock us to our core. While these situations are unfortunately and seemingly unavoidable, we also don’t have to allow them to cause us to live in a state of fear.

Why? Because although these things are occurring in this world, we have the covering and assurance of the protection of Our Heavenly Father. God has already promised that we don’t have to live in fear because he is with us.

In our scripture today God was reassuring the children of Israel in their time of captivity in Babylon. They knew that this captivity would come with many hardships and trials and the thought of what could occur was greatly terrifying them. Although the children of Israel knew their fight would be long and difficult, God knew He already had planned on providing his peace and protection to them. Yes, they would face painful situations but they did not have to be fearful and walk in that manner because He would be with them.

There may be times where it seems like we are alone in our situations, but the same God who went with and protected the children of Israel in their time of captivity; is the same God that is with and protects us today. We don’t have to be fearful, dismayed, distressed or weak. For in God we have our strength, peace, protection and ability to remain in a sound mind. So the next time you hear an event unfold in this world, or the next time you face a hard situation; remember that you don’t have to be afraid because God is with you.
